PDO THREADS BEFORE & AFTER

What Are Thread Lifts?

Thread lifts are a cosmetic procedure for skin tightening in the face and neck, legs, arms and more. The material used, Polydioxanone (PDO), are threads that dissolve within the body. It is the same material used by surgeons for internal sutures. These threads hold up loose and sagging skin by providing structure to hold and secure the skin in place.

Essentially, it is a minimally invasive face lift with threads. The procedure is an alternative to a face lift, at a fraction of the price.

There are many types of threads of varying lengths, thicknesses, and barb strength. Each thread type has specific purposes and uses.

What is the procedure like?

The thread lift procedure, AKA "lunchtime lifts", is relatively quick, usually less than an 30 minutes. Most of procedure time is for numbing with a local anesthesia. Once you are numb, we insert threads under the skin with a cannula. We then lift the threads back to remove skin laxity, and secure them in place.

To lift and tighten, the threads have tiny barbs to hold the skin in place. After the procedure, there is almost no down time. Some patients experience a little swelling or bruising, but this resolves within a few days.

Over approximately 6 months, the body absorbs the threads, the healing response will stimulates collagen production. After threads fully absorb, this collagen holds the skin in place. On average, you can expect thread results to last from 1-2 years, while some patient's results last up to 9 years.

Who are PDO Threads For?

We use Thread Lifts for facial rejuvenation and to combat the signs of ageing. We perform many thread lifts when patients who are not interested in plastic surgery. Threads are applicable anywhere you have sagging skin, such as the marionette lines and brow lifts.

If you are wondering if you are a good candidate, you can perform this test. Start by placing your index fingers just below your temples, right in front of your ears. With gentle pressure, pull the skin upwards and back away from the mouth.

Pay attention to any movement you observe in your skin during this process. If you notice improvement in the drooping of your skin, you may be a good candidate for PDO threads.

For the best possible results, we often recommend combining PDO threads with a hyaluronic acid filler. This combination approach allows for a two-fold benefit. Firstly, the threads work to tighten and lift the skin, reducing any laxity or sagging. Secondly, the dermal filler adds volume to the treated areas, further enhancing the overall rejuvenation effect.

What are the risks?

PDO thread lifts carry much less risk compared to surgical face lifts, and are a fraction of the cost. Most side effects only last 24-28 hours, and complications are minor and correctable. We support our work and will promptly address any treatable side effects. Some side effects include:

  • visible threads (typical if you have thin skin)

  • minor pain

  • bruising

  • build up of blood (hematoma)

  • inflammation

  • dimpling (texturing of skin like a orange peel)

Aside from thread lifts, there are also limitations to consider. While patients often compare thread lifts to face lifts, they do not provide the same results. Thread lifts are more subtle than face lifts, and are capable of less dramatic results. Many clients are not good thread candidates because they have too much skin.

We will check if you are a suitable thread candidate at your consultation.

How are threads used for the body?

We use threads in the body in the same way we use them in the for facial rejuvenation. And they serve the same purpose. For example, a thread lift for legs will help lift excess skin that often accumulates above the knees. Threads under the chin and neck can help with double chin, and to provide definition in the jaw line.

Why we love threads

Threads are great procedures because they provide immediate results with very few complications. Though one should be careful comparing thread lifts to face lifts, the costs to the patient is considerably less for threads. The procedure is also minimally invasive, and requires virtually no down time.

You can walk in and out of the clinic in less than an hour, having tightened your skin in several areas!

How much do PDO Threads Cost?

We base the cost of the procedure on the number of threads used. Typically, most procedures use 4-14 threads, depending on many factors.
